DigiKōr Builds Confidence and Belonging Through Podcasting

DigiKōr is a Level 2, 5 Credits skills standard approved by NZQA, supporting high school students to build their oral language skills and connect with their culture through podcasting.

DigiKōr founder, Will Fleming, is a neurodiverse learner. Will’s dyslexia led him to focus on his strong oral communication skills, making literacy more accessible. DigiKōr harnesses the rich oral traditions of Māori and Pasifika cultures, fostering authentic connections that empower young people and make literacy accessible.

In 2022-2023, Campfire Studios partnered with the JR McKenzie Trust to launch DigiKōr (Digital Kōrero), a pioneering program that leverages podcasting to enhance literacy by focusing on oral language skills and fostering authentic connections. Thanks to the success of DigiKōr, the program has received approval from NZQA as a Level 2, 5-credit skills standard.

Looking ahead, DigiKōr aims to expand its reach to over 60 high schools across Aotearoa by 2027, providing more students with the opportunity to benefit from this innovative approach to literacy education.
